Remodeling in 2005-2006

Before

This is our house in Hot Springs, SD before the remodeling of the outside of the house. Hail hit the old siding and did a lot of damage. The siding on the house was in need of painting again and the last painting that we did was just after we bought the home in the year 2000. It was old 12 inch Masonite lap siding and was getting to where it was not holding the paint anymore.

Stage 1

We hired Jason Mann of Roof Riders Construction to help with the project. He started the project by re-roofing the home and removing the old siding and wrapping a layer of Owens Corning insulation around the entire house. The design and overseeing of the entire project and all the finish work which includes the railings, ceiling, apron and landscaping will be done by Exclusively Wood ( Me). Roof Riders has done an excellent job in the construction and staying with the theme and also has been very beneficial with some excellent suggestions. They are very conscience about the quality of work that is done.

Stage 2

The house is being sided with Rollex double 4 steel siding and a wrap around porch was added to the front of the house facing the road and wrapped to the north. 8 feet out and 8 foot ceiling on the porch construction. Instead of 4X4 posts beefy 8X8 posts were added and nothing but 2X6 construction and larger made this a very well build and sturdy add-on. The footings were sunk a full four foot in the ground and posts were set above ground level on the concrete pads.

Stage 3

Some of the finishing touches are being added like the railings and the steps. The exposed wood on the porch will primed and painted. Only the ceiling will be left natural wood made of 4 inch tongue and grove carsiding. Electricity for lighting was added to the ceilings in the porch area with switch by inside front door. No gutter and downspout will be added to the porch area. A rock and shrub landscaping will be done to use the run-off of the roof for watering the shrubs and catching the rain splash. There will be an old fashion apron added to keep the animals and small children from crawling under the porch area.
